Misc. Notes
Most of Gluck's original music has been retained here, but to stretch this "festa teatrale" into a full-length opera, no less than twelve additional pieces have been inserted. Most of them were composed by Johann Christian Bach for the 1770 London performance, except for "La legge accetto", which Bach wrote exclusively for this Neapolitan production. - The chorus "Sciolto ognun dal terreo vel" is a parody of the opening chorus ("Oh the pleasure of the plains") from Handel's "Acis and Galathea"; the following aria "Se quel dolor che sento" is a slightly modernized reworking of "Se al labbro mio non credi", originally written by Riccardo Broschi for the London revival of Hasse's "Artaserse" in 1734 (!).
