This piece was Mark Petering’s entry into the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Music competition. The entry was sponsored by Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra clarinetist William Helmers who also serves as clarinetist for the Washington Island Music Festival and Present Music (one of the premiere new music ensembles in the United States). Mr. Helmers was among those that performed the world premiere at the island festival and, in addition to his duties above, frequently substitutes at the Cleveland Orchestra.
