The set of Cramer’s etudes with Beethoven’s annotations are a singularly important document of performance practice. Hans Kann’s edition includes a comprehensive foreword as well as a collection of other documents regarding Beethoven’s pianism and smaller exercises by Beethoven himself. It cannot be enough recommended to seek out this volume in full and appreciate that it is still on sale by Universal Edition (https://www.universaledition.com/21-Etueden/P0318664).
